about the practice
welcome!
you have a right to healing.
you have a right to wholeness.
Metztli is a different kind of therapy, consulting, and psychological practice.
Dr. Jeannine Cicco Barker, PsyD, ATR-BC (she/ella) is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified art therapist whose approach to therapy is decolonial and rooted in the work towards collective liberation. As a therapist with multiple marginalized identities, she deeply understands how oppression leads to trauma and mental health concerns. Her work with her clients is grounded in the values of empowerment, reclamation, love, healing, justice, and connection. She believes that healing and wholeness are and should be for all.
Sometimes our relationships cause pain, sometimes trauma harms us, and the very act of living in this world can cause suffering. And sometimes, we are trying the best we can to cope and survive, but these ways of coping may also hurt us. Therapy can be a place where you can begin to reclaim what was taken from you, honor your needs, and listen to your own voice. You may become more connected to yourself, to others, and your life in the process.
Therapy can be powerful, transformative, and liberating.
Healing is a part of liberation and therapy can be, and should be, grounded in this. Dr. Jeannine warmly welcomes everyone looking for this approach, and her practice and work also centers the healing of those with marginalized identities and those working towards social justice and change in our world. Here, you’ll find an affirming space where you will be validated, heard, and honored, and where you can begin to heal. Metztli is committed to serving the BBIPOC, LGBTQ+, and the immigrant and migrant communities.
Dr. Jeannine is also an experienced consultant, speaker, and educator. She is passionate about working with organizations seeking to be more trauma and mental health informed and holistically supportive of their staff and community. She is especially committed to support social justice aligned organizations. Please visit her consultation pages for more information about what she can provide you and your staff.
If you are looking for an approach to therapy that honors all of who you are, is trauma informed and decolonial and social justice informed, is effective and empowering, and provided by a therapist who deeply cares about you and your healing, you’ve come to the right place.
Welcome!

I look forward to hearing from you!
